Just because Lucci lost badly to Luffy does not mean he is garbage, far from it. It's Luffy in Gear Fifth form that it's just overpowered.

Lucci probably wasn't above Zoro then, but his upgrade was pretty insane. I mean he took out Sentomaru in one shot. Oda frankly didn't give any reason to think Kaku warranted that sort of attention in Egghead though, I agree.

I think Sanji should have been the one to fight Lucci while Zoro fought Nosjuronor something. Sanji needs to fight a speedster that isn’t out of his league. Kizaru was to much and Kakunwouldnt have been enough.

Why?

- Both of them awakened, have advanced haki.
- Kaku got paired along with Zoro to fight S-Hawk, like Lucci with Luffy to fight S-Bear.
- Stussy called both Lucci and Kaku strong, that she wouldn't want to take them on head on.
- Oda had to justify Kaku facing TWO seraphim in a 1v2, to justify taking him out of the arc. This is clearly Oda showing respect for Kaku's power level, else he could've just done the same with one seraphim? He showed S-Fish (weakest seraphim) no diff Brook, a vet level character; clearly Oda considers them too strong for vets and enough to easily solo one, but Oda ensured Kaku went down to two of them instead.

Don't think Kaku is far behind Lucci.

Lucci clashed with G5 Luffy and, above all, Lucci was current Zoro opponent. If Kaku were actually comparable to Lucci, it would mean he somehow managed to keep up with Zoro's growth during the TS and the New world journey. Nonsense.
Lucci also outranks Kaku and he wasn't bubble diffed.
As simple as that

The rest is just CL²³oda being the biggest Zoro fan there is. Any Zoro opponent has to remain somewhat relevant as a fighter. I wouldn't put much weight into Kaku's performance against the seraphims, as a former Zoro opponent he had to look good enough to not embarrass Zoro but not so good he overshadowed him.

Kaku is a strong fighter, Lucci is built different
