Character Discussion Does anyone genuinely like Shanks as a character

We should expect Shanks to give us really good fight scenes, actually, and his crew overall is probably more technically sensible than Blackbeard's uncoordinated crew. They're said to be the most balanced crew. Historically, they have always been impressive, and present a cutthroat perspective readily.
As a person, I enjoy his Livin' La Vida Loca lifestyle.

What exactly is wrong with a mary sue character every now and again? Not every character has to be secretly greedy or evil, how are you gonna hate on someone for just being a heroic badass? He's clever, funny, strong and puts the lives of his friends before his own. That's a role model, and for some reason it makes people bitter because he's better than their favourite character.
I also like Link from zelda, Yuna/Rikku from FF, Minato, Toshiro, Mirajane and Frieren. All fit the bill, and I don't see the issue with having characters who are just great.
Now I will admit Shanks is on fraudwatch because he only started making his move after everyone relevant died or was defeated. But he's still been a top 5 favourite of mine since the beginning.
