Speculations Does genetics determine who your fav is

#21
Like it can't be environmental....since we all watched the same damn series.

So what makes a person a Zoro fan in comparison to a Sanji fan.

A Yonko fan in comparison to an Admiral fan.

??????
Bias.. people's inclination and a sense of justice towards something.

Genetics is a study of genes which is something you inherit from your parents as a trait.

so genetics ain't it

intelligence and comprehension skill

Reading the manga if you prefer skill and strength you choose Zoro

if you prefer stupidness and being a victim the whole time then Sanji
Yea exactly what i meant up there @Prince Kronos .

bias BS against and for something and sense of justice abd equity

I think it's simply appreciation for different aspects in a character.

I like Sanji's past and his compassion that he developed as a result of his experience of almost starving. I admire his dedication to Zeff and I respect his ability to stick to his virtues despite the circumstances whereas someone else might find that annoying, ridiculous or just plain selfish.

I prefer Sanji's fighting style comprised of solely kicks over other ones introduced in the story and I like how it relates to his values whereas someone else might enjoy Luffy's creativity in how he uses his fruit. I like that in an arc, Sanji can be used to accomplish a range of different tasks and that he can one-up villains in other ways aside from fighting but he isn't a slouche when it comes to that either.

Sanji's gags can be excessive at times but I find his goofiness funny most of the time. I like his immaturity when it comes to Zoro or women but it's even better when he puts that aside. I completely understand people who can't stand him for his gags especially when it becomes straught-up harassment.

It's not that I don't find Luffy or Zoro interesting, I do. It's just that I'm more engaged in Sanji's plotlines a lot of the time as there's usually something going on with him I enjoy even if he's not being praised by those around him or he's being looked down on.

It depends on people preferences, there are people who like romantic novels, adventure novels, thriller novels etc. it is the same for the characters. Also sometimes, let's say often as far as I can say, you can like a lot more than a single character, Zoro and Sanji in this case, but then the fandoms start to oppose each other with the stupid vs banter and the opinions get radicalized on both sides. It is the same for politics (right and left parties demonizing each other and so on).

I always like a character who use his body to fight or i can say brawler.

about the character, i think the environment or genetics is coming to play to determine you are Luffy/Zoro/Sanji/etc fan.

On a serious note scientific studies suggest that tastes in general can have a broad genetical component, but environment can also play a major factor.

Well, the real Sanji fans have long quit one piece, the only ones who remained, are ether the toxic trash–talkers or just addicted people.

  • But if we're talking about the pre-timskip one piece community then it's farley simple.

Luffy, Zoro and Sanji's characters are based on the [good old school] archetypes of King, Warrior, Magician.
King archetype is the combination of all other archetypes, so I'm not going to explain it to you, especially when Luffy wasn't mentioned in this thread.

1. The warrior archetype has the characteristics, such as: pride, greed, honor, arrogance, cockiness etc.

2. The magician archetype has the characteristics, such as: kindness, wisdom, manipulator, dreamer etc.

Essentially, if you're a kid who thinks that he's the toughest guy in the town, then the chances are that you're probably a Zoro fan. If you're the guy who thinks twice before doing something then you're probably a Sanji fan.

Keep in mind that I'm not talking about all Zoro and Sanji fans, people can love characters that are dirasticly different from them, but when it comes to the majority cases then this is how it goes.

if you want to know more about archetypes then I can recommend you few good books about that topic.

We all read the same series but we don't approach it from the same values, preferences, knowledge, age, cultural context..., and this is what mainly establishes whether someone likes one character or not.

Personally I think it's all good as long as it isn't based on ignorance (disliking a character's aesthetics with very good design because you don't understand about such area) or harmful prejudices (some people disliking Sanji are obviously homophobic and show profiles that remind me of incels, for example). Obviously some opinions and preferences are better-grounded than others by objectifiable reasons, which commonly reduce the influence of subjectives forces like relatability or early experiences.

But we can't force a common Japanese guy to not like Luffy because there's a very likely attractive behind the character's free spirit and soft anarchism considering how strict their society is, for example.

Kinda
Maybe it doesn't decide who's your fave but it decides what kind of fan you are
for example, if you're into powerscaling and one piece reaction videos, you're probably not the most genetically gifted person in the world.
