No, it just means he started fasting 3 years ago. Not necessarily that this is when he ate his DF.
Is he really fasting or is that what everyone else thinks hes doing ? Hes been drinking booze with his DF and im pretty sure he makes his plants eat other things for him as well.

It would be random for him to have his DF for a long time and only recently start doing this.

Fujitora asks him “are you still on your fast?”

And Ryokugyu confirms he hasn’t eaten physical food in 3 years. Sounds like a fast to me.

It also sounds like the ultimate opponent for EOS Cook, a man who does not eat. Lol

Because he obviously isn’t a swordsman
Who says you need to be a swordsman to achieve a black blade? Lol

It’s almost as if Oda didn’t give us a full combat showcase for Aramaki and is saving him for later.

hmmmmm
He's saving Mihawk for later as well, why did he reveal about Yoru there?

When Oda wants us to know that a sword is a Kokuto, we know that for damn sure - he gives that information in the manga and doesn't leave it on the fence like this. We get clear confirmation from the manga itself that the sword is a Kokuto.

We didn't get that for Aramaki.

Specifically, the blade of the sword alone is turned black in black blades. Even in Shusui's example, although the Crossguard is shaded black in the black & white manga, it is actually gold and same goes for the handle, which is purple.

They do not worship Shusui because it is a black blade lol,

They worship Shusui because it is a relic of Ryuma.

The worship is for Ryuma, not for his sword. Lol
Yeah, and I never said they worship Shusui because it's a black blade.
The point is they know damn well what Black blades are - yet they didn't even make a single remark about Aramaki's blade even though it was unsheathed the entire time, is the point.

Such a line of dialogue would’ve been clunky, out of place, and extremely irrelevant to the immediate plot considering Ryokugyu didn’t even use his sword against them. Like they lay eyes on a marine for the first time in Wano history, but they would comment on his black blade rather than that fact? Or they would comment on his black blade before Devil fruit which he was using against them? Such a line of dialogue would have been stupid and pointless. Y’all really exposing how hard swordbois misread this manga if y’all think a black blade is more relevant than the above points.

Like I said, why would they comment on a black blade? They don’t worship Shusui because it is black, they worship it because it belonged to Ryuma. So it’s not like these motherfuckers lay eyes on a black blade and immediately think “Shusui!!” Because again Shusui is irrelevant, it is a reminder of Ryuma who is what they really care about.

@bold: Therein lies the problem: the very fact that Oda focused solely on Greenbull's df and didn't even focus on his blade at all in the entire sequence is a sign that it most likely isn't what you think it is, lol. All it would've taken Oda was a single speech bubble with a character remarking about the blade, but he didn't - especially when the blade was unsheathed even.

Because the country literally worships a Kokuto, it's a nation full of Samurai where even a monk-fox knows of how Ryuma forged Shusui into a Kokuto... and yet they did not even care to comment that this Marine invader also has achieved a similar feat? That doesn't sound right with me. I was all up for Aramaki to have a Kokuto, but his time in Wano is over & his sword has virtually been irrelevant and that hasn't been the case with Yoru or Shusui - Oda explicitly confirmed in the manga itself that the blades were kokutos. And as many users have said already, black shading alone isn't an indicator that a sword is a Kokuto.

Because this is Oda hyping Ryokugyu’s combat ability. The man is so strong that he achieved a black blade as his side-arm, while his main fighting attribute is his Devil Fruit. This is no different from Katakuri mentioning his Awakening as an afterthought. Katakuri is so strong, that he awakened his Paramecia fruit while also achieving a top tier level of CoO. Ryokugyu is so strong, he achieved a black blade while also being an awakened logia (probably?).

Because the country literally worships a Kokuto
No. The country worships Ryuma.

and yet they did not even care to comment that this Marine invader also has achieved a similar feat?
Because it was irrelevant to the plot. Ryokugyu didn’t use his black blade against them, he used his Devil Fruit. Why on earth would they have commented on a weapon Ryokugyu did not even use?

I think most likely yes, but he may not have made it himself
I didn't even think about that

Ryuma and Mihawk probably aren't the only swordsmen in history that have forged black blades

There could be a few more in the world. Hell, Shusui is black and isn't even the greatest grade

There could be a few in the 2 best grades that have been forged black
