Back during 2007, Oda stated that the reason a pirate with an eyepatch hasn't appeared because he intended said pirate to hail the ending stretch of the manga.
Following this latest chapter, I decided to look into a bunch of the concept art for kuma and bonney.
Pretty sure everyone knows early concept kuma got repurposed into Shiki the Lion.
However early concept bonney has her with an eyepatch instead of her current eye/cheek ring.
Bonney, along with the rest of the Supernova made their intro/were created in 2008, a year after Oda's comment. However, despite him saying he made them within a week, I don't believe that statement is true, at least not in terms of their designs.
Hawkins for instance can be seen as an early concept art for the 7 warlords.
(Another bit of fun trivia is that Vice Admiral Doll was a concept art for Post TS Robin)
This makes me wonder if the "eyepatch" pirate still matters as its own existing design that has yet to be shown off.
