I'd love having him out doing business with croc but I think story-wise it would be better if we saw his strangled (ironically) corpse in his cell in one of the rare dark piece cliff hangers.
But then. Who would do it? None of Magellan's crew certainly.

Him getting assassinated would be pretty underwhelming. It adds to the seriousness that the World Government handles threats but kinda gets rid of all potential involvement Doffy could have if he broke out.
Cross Guilde going out of their way to break him out seems a bit much, not like they were allied prior but I'd love it if he joined after getting out. The extent of his knowledge being showcased would be nice and him returning as a powerful underground broker as part of Cross Gude would be cool.
