Character Discussion Doflamingo the Demon and Kuma the Angel

#1
This topic will be about two of the best Warlords Donquixote Doflamingo and Bartholomew Kuma, one who I consider a demon and the other a angel.

First things first, both of these Warlords were introduced at the same time in chapter 233, in fact when it comes to the other Seven Original Warlords, none of them were introduced together at the same time like how Doffy and Kuma were.

Doflamingo was born as a Celestial Dragon as a member of the Donquixote Family who are one of the 20 royal families that founded the World Government.

Even when Doffy was a kid, he was asking for slaves.

But then you have Kuma who was a slave to the Celestial Dragons and even as a kid Kuma wanted to help many people.

Doffy as a kid as kid threatening some people of a unknown Kingdom when he used to live there.

And Kuma as a kid helping out two kids from the Sorbet Kingdom.

We know that Doffy's life would soon turn upside down, where he would then eventually kill his own father and soon join up with Trebol and the others and form a Pirate crew.

Kuma on the other hand after growing up would soon join the Revs in order to help as many people like he wanted.

Both Doflamingo and Kuma would soon become Kings, Doffy would become King of Dressrosa and Kuma would become King of Sorbet.

Doffy became King of Dressrosa after controlling King Riku and his soldiers to kill a bunch of the citizens, after that he and his crew would then arrive and make themselves seem like the heroes.

After overthrowing Riku, Doffy then became King of Dressrosa.

As for Kuma, he became King after overthrowing King Bekori who was proven to be a evil King who kept trying to burn and kill the poor citizens of Sorbet.

Even though Kuma didn't really care about becoming a King, he decided to become one because of the citizens of Sorbet.

Heck even after he became King, he still decided to live in the church and act more like a figurehead while he allowed former King BullDog to actually run the Kingdom.

So as we can see, Doffy became King through manipulation and made himself a false hero, while Kuma was a real hero who overthrew an actual evil King and ended up saving many of the citizens of Sorbet.

Because of Bekori, Kuma would soon get the epithet of Tyrant. To anyone outside of the Revs, Bonney, and the citizens of Sorbet, Kuma was seen as this evil Tyrant of the Sorbert Kingdom.

But in reality he was never a Tyrant, Kuma was this respectful Pastor and King who would always go out and help people.

Even taking the pain of the old citizens to himself.

Doflamingo on the other hand was presented as this respectful King trying to protect his own kingdom and citizens.

But in reality underneath it all, Doffy was a tyrant who would turn some of his own citizens into toys and enslave them via Sugar.

In truth Doffy was a real tyrant who woud rule over Dressrosa through manipulation and slavery while pretneding to be this respectful King.

While Kuma who was only a King temporarily and only acted as a figurehead would always protect and help out his own citizens, only being branded as a Tyrant because of Bekori's propaganda.

Doflamingo again uses manipulation, slavery, and murder to get what he wants, and he never cared about his kingdom or his own citizens.

He was basically a demon.

And again when it comes to Kuma, he was this kind Pastor and King who would always protect the Sorbet Kingdom, help out his own citizens, be a great step father to Bonney while trying find a cure for her, and even helped out people outside of the Sorbet Kingdom back when he was a Rev.

He was basically a Angel.

Oda has really shown us that both Doflamingo and Kuma are the complete opposite of each other, one again is this evil demon and the other is this kind angel.

Anyways thanks for reading!

Great thread and I do agree that the two really contrast each other
I wonder if the ages match up and if Kuma was a slave while Doflamingo was still in Mariejois (too lazy to check that)

Doffy would be 3 or 4 y.o. at the time of God Valley iirc.

Im one of those who believe that GV incident changed the views of Doffy's dad and kickstarted his story.

I would call Kuma the Tyrant Angel or Tyrant Pacifist. Both sides of Kuma, one fake the other true. While Doffy is Heavenly Deman, one fake and the other true.

Puppet vs puppeteer
Kuma wanted to help Bonney out of love for her vs Doflamingo wanted to help law for what he himself would gain
Believer of nika vs hates the d family
Doffy aint that bad neither. He really wanted Law to be his right hand. Law was not meant to eat the DF, it was Corazon. We can see that Doffy read about Law's desease and country to try and help him. Doffy indeed saw himself in Law until Corazon changed him.

Doffy is definitely bad.
He's terrible.

Part of me hopes that Kuma survives so if Doflamingo escapes and potentially joins CG, he can either team up with him against Serephim or face off against him in either fashion. Just a cool dichotomy between bith characters, love the analysis

Great analysis, good job. I think there's another opposition between Doflamingo's character and Kuma's worth mentioning: the relationship with the woman figure.

Doflamingo is hinted to have had a sexual relationship with Viola, the very daughter of the King he previously defamed and dethroned. It's not clear if it was rape or some type of Stockholm syndrome, but anyway he took advantage of her. For Doflamingo it was probably just a further show of dominance over the Kingdom he thought was his legitmate property by bloodline.

Kuma, on the other hand, lost Ginny when she was captured and married to a Celestial Dragon. The same Celestial Dragon got her pregnant and abandoned her when she was on the brink of death. We all saw what Kuma did for Bonney, even tho she was never his legitimate/biological daughter he sacrificed literally everything and made a deal with the Devil to ensure the safety of Ginny's heiress.
