I mean the real issue is how little Franky has been given this arc since he was sent to Vegapunk's lab to train for two years. Other crew members not showing much interest is probably more for focusing on Vegapunk's character and the exposition dump. Could be handled better but not necessarily a major error in my opinion

Because Oda is pretty much bored of most of the strawhats and wants to focus on other characters. This is the harsh truth that some people don't want to accept. He is way more excited drawing the things outside of Egghead right now and it shows.
