Quick thread, I'd like to know the community opinion on this matter.
The more we go ahead in the story, the more looks like Oda is purposely leaving some hints that suggest Kidd's character might be based on the Red Boy.
First, who is the Red Boy?

Red Boy (紅孩兒) is the ferocious son of the Bull Demon King and Princess Iron Fan. Sun Wukong had battled against Red Boy in hopes of returning his master Tang Sanzang.

Now...
- First thing that catches the eye is the name Red Boy, pretty fitting for Kidd's design (red hair, red coat, bloody theme) and the key-abjective that describes him as ferocious (again, pretty fitting for his character).

- He's the son of the Bull Demon King. Kidd was already coupled with the Fighting Bull, but last chapter (1038) opened a whole new dimension to it thanks to the attack 'Punk Corna Dio', which literally means 'Big Magnetic Demon Bull'... a coincidence?

- He's the son of the Princess Iron Fan. Here, again, there's some kind of pun with Kidd's DF (the Jiki-Jiki) which revolves around electromagnetism and the materials affected by it, such as iron. Another coincidence...?

- Red Boy had to confront Sun Wukong because of Sun Wukong's master, Tang Sanzang. We already know there's bad blood betweeen Kidd and someone who rapresents kind-of a mentor figure to Luffy: "Red-Haired" Shanks.
Could Shanks be the indirect factor that will make Luffy (Sun Wukong) & Kidd (Red Boy) collide ahead in the story?

IS EUSTASS "CAPTAIN" KIDD THE "RED BOY"?

If Luffy is inspired from Sun Wukong which he is
And Red Boy is Major Character from Journey To The West
Then Oda created Character who represents Red Boy since Start of Manga

Have we seen a Red Boy when Manga started? Yes ofc
It's Shanks

You think Oda waited a Decade until his Editor told him to create Supernova & that is when Oda decided to finally include Red Boy?
With such heavy inspiration from that Tale (Which Dragon Ball also inspired from, & Oda loves DB so much)
It's obvious that Red Boy = Shanks. Not Kid

About that, Tang Sanzang covers a central role in the story while Red Boy is featured in it (still an important role).
Seen how Sanzang is an older, mentor-like figure for Wukong it's more likely Sanzang is the inspiration for Shanks.

Old & Mentor Figure for Luffy is Rayleigh, not Shanks

Also Red Boy is like a Brother to Wukong & he is known for his Supreme Fire Abilities
Which fits Ace (or Sabo) more than Kid tbh

Umm I guess it's referred more to Kidd since the red boy in journey to the west appear also abit later. Jinbei as Sa wuching also appear later in OP.

As Sanzang, I see Zoro more to be him with interesting Twist where in journey to the west Sanzang freed Wukong from the mountain prison while in Op Luffy(wukong) freed Zoro(Sanzang) from Morgan prison.
