New here. I already read Fairy Tail. Is Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest worth the read. I'm still disappointed from the finale of the original manga and I wonder if Hiro Mashima changed anything in the way he writes his characters. In a positive sense, sure.

I didn't notice any improvements, same focus on main 5 + cats, same gags, same power ups outta nowhere...plus it's out every other week which makes reading as it goes a little more frustrating.
It has a few really cool moments, but if you were disappointed with the FT, I am not sure you're going to love the sequel.
I think he went digital quite long ago, during the COVID pandemic, and I guess he's trying something new?
I don't necessarily like it (although it reminds me a little of his art style during Rave), but I can't help but encourage him experimenting with the art. I hope this picture is not a result of him being hurt/any health issues preventing him to draw, or someone drawing FT and trying to pass it as if it's Mashima's work (we already have a capable mangaka who is doing FT100Q and can imitate Mashima's art very well).
Especially in the latest volumes. FT also started off with the same style and then it became more generic and rounded up I guess. I probably like the art during the Tower of Heaven arc the most.

I really don't know what Hiro is doing. I hope he will not use this new artstyle for his new manga.
Except his new style looks better later when he starts his new manga, but so far I prefer his old styles.

He went digital but he went already during his work on EZ and EZ didn't looked like this. I think he wants to try a new style. Maybe for his new manga?
Also it looks like, he used the new art style in the special chapter of FT100YQ

He changed his styles during his works sometimes, EZ and DR also looked a little bit different than FT but it still looks good.
The new one looks weird with the really round faces and the eyes from the female cast.
But maybe the style will looks better if he starts with his new manga?
Тbh, he has a looooot of fan service in earlier arcs as well. I've been checking the FT earlier arcs yesterday, and for example in already mentioned Tower of Heaven arc succubus Juvia rips off Lucy's top so the latter had to put on a bandana to cover her breasts, and then there's a glorious underboob shot when Lucy and Juvia have their magic unison raid several panels later.... And even in Rave, there's a fight where an enemy strips Julia and she's like "so what I'm going to fight half baked". But it feels less pronounced with a more toned down art style, and once he makes boobs and butts and other body parts rounder, it feels more "into your face"?
Adding a spoiler b/c I went too far with the images:
Compare these Juvia covers:
And this one from chapter 394
Both have a lot of cleavage, but first one is kinda classy, second is maid fetish.
These three are straight pin up art.
And here's some Rave Master cover fan service:
TL;DR: Mashima has always been drawing a lot of fan service, but with a different art style is could be more noticeable and less subtle.
Tagging @Warchief Sanji D Goat b/c this is the kind of content and discussion he'd probably appreciate.
BTW, as I was re-readinf FT, I got to know that actually Mashima started going digital way back in 2013, here is his interview from FT volume 28:

I mean, yeah, fan service has always been part of Shonen. It’s the same with One Piece and other series. But back in the day it was short scenes or small panels and it was mostly used as gags (like Nami‘s lucky punch or her short fashion show in Logue Town). Meanwhile nowadays it just feels too much. Mashima‘s and also Oda‘s art styles have become very lewd and it’s a lot less subtle when women run around with breasts so big you wonder how they can even still walk lmao.

Yes, that's what I meant by saying it became more pronounced with a different art style. I mean, of all your characters kinda look like twigs, and their boobs are normal-sized, even a suggestive picture has more subtle effect. Meanwhile more recent chapters of FT, FT100Q, EZ and DR sometimes feel like softcore porn. At least Mashima is gracious enough to have fan service on both sides, we get both naked Lucy and naked Gray to admire.
