Current Events Fake tension in Wano

I just said something about this in the chapter discussion thread, and I’ll expand a bit here...if this is really it for all three, it’s a tough pill to swallow, but one that can only amplify the waning dramatic tension and sense of urgency that’s starting to plague this act. Kiku reuniting with her brother only to die on the same day, Kin biting the dust before getting to see O-Tsuru again, and Kanjuro going down swinging unrepentantly one last time at the Kozuki retainers he deceived for decades would be some of the most heartbreaking shit we’ve seen in Wano, but more importantly, their deaths would immediately be the most decisive things Oda’s done since Marineford and could inspire hope in the more bitter among us (hi!) that the old narrative magic - or at the very least, the ability to recognize when sticking the landing is the most crucial part of a plot point - is still lurking somewhere in the old boy’s subconscious.

Seems to me that making the tough call and going through with these losses would only serve to improve the quality of the story, but hey, if the checks clear either way...get ready for a Scabbards Revival arc to kick off Two Piece in 2026 :moonwalk:

Once bitten, twice shy.

I don't believe it, and when I think about it the only response that I see myself having if they really die is "it's about time!" and that is not a good thing. It would also just make my impression of the whole thing worse because it would make the 1st fight with Kanjuro such a blunder. The Scabbards' death could be construed as being Kiku's fault which is why I don't see them dying (besides the massive party they are going to have at the end of the arc).

The whole business of Hiyori/Silhouette treating them would also become awkward. I guess it would just add to the messiness of the arc regardless.

Luffy lost last chapter just screams the return of the Savior, Messiah D. Luffy.

When all hope seems to be lost
When alliances are being crushed one by one
Children, weak characters, damsels, hostages will all cry together Fishman Island citizen style

Save us Messiah D. Luffy waah waah
Save us Messiah D. Luffy waaah waah
Save us Messiah D. Luffy waahh

Kaido: hahaha your Messiah is already dead

And suddenly everyone's destined savior, Messiah D. Luffy makes his comeback with exaggerating effect 🤮🤮🤮

We all know Kinemon isn’t dead

We all know Luffy is gonna survive

We all know Kiku isn’t dead

Why does Oda keep doing this? This arc alone has been nothing but fake tension. Hell, he even did it twice with Kinemon in the span of 20 chapters lol. It’s just getting boring at this point lol
And we all know Luffy's gonna be the King of Pirates in chapter 1. Oda's been wasting paper and ink just to tell us something we already know since day 1. What a waste of time.
