What is your favorite saga in the original Dragon Ball manga and anime before Raditz's arrival ?
My favorite one is King Piccolo sage with the eponymous antagonist being the first really serious foe faced by Goku and his friends who killed many persons and several friends of Goku and who was not only very powerful by the power standards at the time but also a very intelligent and cunning villain whose first action after being released was to get informations on those who could potentially oppose him and to eliminate as quickly as possible, who let Master Roshi collect most of the Dragon Balls for him and who also cared for his minions unlike most DB antagonists.
