It quite depends. As we know, Uta was putting captain title over father title, but she considered him as so still, but we don't know the case with Shanks and Roger. Shanks was calling him per captain and Roger, as so Buggy.

But if we wanna really go deep into it...

As we know, Shanks is the one who took care over the funeral of WB and Ace. We can take it as a pure respect and duety sworn for his old friend, but at the same time, why Shanks cared so much for wellbeing of Ace? Those two have met, reason from Ace's part was to thank him for saving his brother. Shanks might've recognized his last name as Rouge's. Maybe besides helping his friend it saving his captain's son, there was an undertone to save his "brother" too? " cuz we are not sure here- ok I will take off my tin foil hat
