Oh yes I remember about Iceburg proposing him that since his original name would look weird.
Yes his parents were pirates, I well recall that, wonder if they were also shipwrights however or at least one. Guess we will probably never acknowledge that. But it could have just been Oda's hand honestly, that's not so mandatory.
