Yeah parallels are always kinda forced but there are levels to this
We always knew Luffy was this gen Roger
That the Straw hat made a link between them
That some people saw Roger into Luffy
Bur Oda had to go one step further making them similar personality wise, both goofy etc
While there were no hint of that before
Same for the crews. We knew Roger had a Rayleig and a Gaban
But Ray was quite different from Zoro.
But Oda had again go two extra miles : giving a scar to Zoro eye, giving him a hell/dark nickname etc.
It’s lame
Same for the Ryuma / Zoro : Zoro being the new Ryuma was okay, but why giving him the exact same eye scar and make them copy of each other ? Lame
Same for Gaban and his whole love persona to mimick Sanji ….
i don’t mind parallels to an extent but Oda is going too far with this shit
It makes everything forced and it devaluates current crews and story. Everything was written to be that way, the current SH adventure isn’t original. Luffy was bound to meet a scared swordsman, a womanizer, a fishmen etc etc

People make a habit of calling things forced when they don’t like it and they feel “forced” to endure such storytelling injustices. 
Fiction is contrived by nature. That’s why it’s fictitious. You don’t have to like it, and no story is immune to criticism, but it’s always funny when people so clearly wish to legitimise their hurt feelings over choices they don’t like by dressing them up as valid criticism of the writing itself.
It’s Oda’s story, his life’s work, and most of us don’t even have the decency to pay for consuming it, yet the complaints are endless and endlessly dumb.
There’s a bit of irony in that. History does have a habit of repeating itself when people fail to learn from it.
As it just so happens, Oda’s story involves the erasure of history by a fascist regime desperate to stop history from repeating itself and thereby causing it to do so through their actions. That’s the point.
You don’t have it like it, but there’s nothing forced about it. It’s the point of the story. Oppression breeds resistance, in this era, in every era of the past, and every era to come. There will always be a figure like Nika, Joyboy and Luffy, who attract people to their cause and inspire hope and strength.

Yes, it is very fucking lame that Luffy (who might as well be called Goofy or Toontown-Condom or Condom) is cheaply mirroring Gol. D. Roger. To repeat what I read on this forum from a thread I don't remember, the initial version of Roger looked like a proper scallywag. Post-ts Roger is a goofy fuck no one can take seriously. Do not even get me started on Oden, he is like Shanks who the audience is seemingly forced to like. I say "seemingly" because many people with a brain can see through Oda's mind control with Oden. He is not this super-duper benevolent character we should all love - he is a jackass.

While i find myself oda spells out things too much (and its not only parallels either, its also opponents, as the recent chapter) i cant but ignore that most people here are a) over the intended primary age range of One piece b) dont get the most basic shit if its not spelled out (See Wano, Egghead and Elbaf discissions) c) are more dedicated fans than normal ones

Luffy inherited Roger's Will because they both have similar ambitions/mindsets, it's not like Luffy decided to be exactly like Roger. Two people with the same profession coming to the same conclusion/having the same goal is just... human history.
