Honestly, Samurai bore me.
:sanjimeh:
Their weapons dont have much variety & their attacks are pretty one note.
Plus, even tho samurai r the big cheese in Wano, Orochi still had to shut down some dojos during his takeover. So martial artists (most likely with a grudge) def exist in Wano.
Question is, who riles them up?

I doubt we’ll see them at all, or that they’ll have much impact if they do appear...Oda seems to love few things more than shafting martial artists in this series. Ideo is the only one I can even think of, and maybe Afro Luffy if we’re reaching.

Forgot Fishman Karate, but the others feel like a stretch because they aren’t pure martial artists so much as combatants, pugilists, fighters. Martial arts implies a level of practice, skills, devotion to the craft...Luffy et al. don’t seem to have much discipline past punching as hard as possible and using DF powers (in some cases) to supplement for technique.

PSA: Samurai does is not mean swordsman. Samurai are high ranking retainers to a lord. They typically were swordsmen because they were granted free access to swords, but they were not limited to those. They sometimes used bows, yari(type of spear), and even pistols. It's more accurate to say they are soldiers.

Also, weapon based martial arts would be taught in dojos, and there are many types of those beyond Kenjutsu(swordmanship). Such as Sojutsu(Spear), Kyujutsu(Archery), Jittejutsu(Jitte), etc.

I don't expect anything but I'd like to see some more martial arts being used in OP.

I love martial arts and fighting sports and it would be pretty neat if another way of gaining power w/o weapons or haki & DF would be martial arts. But oh well..

I sadly feel we are going to be done with Wano by the end of this arc.

Oda has a made it pretty clear that Wano is dominated by swordsman. They worship a Sword God. There is also some notable ninja, sumo like Ushimaru, and whatever the Beast Pirate occupants bring to the table. Page One and Drake seem to be Zoan brawlers. The Headliners do everything. Kaido and his Numbers prefer clubbing.

Martial Arts exist all over the world from Fishman Karate, the WG's Rokushiki, Okama Kenpo, Sai and Chinjao's Hasshoken, Lao G's Jio-ken, some boxers and kickboxers here and there, etc. Martial Arts can dominate entire countries like Ivankov's Momoiro Island, but before Wano you couldn't say the same about swordsman despite how many important characters use blades. There isn't even prominent swords styles (other than the religion Zoro is spreading), everyone seems to swing their blade however they want.

What's interesting is that the vast majority of the swordsman are on the good side. Kaido and Big Mom's armies will feature more variety in this conflict. In Enies Lobby, every single antagonist was a Rokushiki user. Picture the Strawhats fighting a villain group made entirely of swordsman, entirely possible if you mix up their styles and give some of them DFs. Not even Wano will take things that far.
