While I liked FMA a lot and I think it's a better story, upon rereads it does get less special to me. OP's a lot more enjoyable, the action is more my speed and it's simpler to read and enjoy.
FMA is a great small scale story. Not overly Ambitious, doesn't try anything crazy. Mostly play's it safe. Thus, it's a great little Manga and Anime. While OP's lows are lower than Fma's, the highs of OP are also much higher than Fma's imo. I enjoy op more, Even shitting on it.
All im gonna say the Ed is fucking annoying, except Alphonse i like him, Riza best girl - Lan fan and Winry comes in close, fav character either King Bradley, Scar, Lin / Greed or Mustang
Pretty much this. Asking "Which one is better: FMA or OP?" is like asking "Which one would you rather eat for free: A Royal Set Sushi King or an instant noodle in a nearby supermarket?"
But, alright, since @Light D Lamperouge and @RayanOO invited me here, the least I could do is be courteous and answer the questions:
1. Plot
FMA for obvious reasons: no tension-free journey, actual character developments, no abandoned plot points because a non-canon film is gonna be released soon, clear motivations for the characters, and a satifying ending to boot.
2. Main characters
Edward is a very, very flawed dude, and I have to admit that he was much less likable than Luffy was initially. But, now that his story has ended, I can safely say that his journey was worth following.
I can't really say the same about Picture Perfect Pirate Jesus.
3. Side characters
FMA, because I actually care about what was going to happen to most of them.
Only side characters in OP that I like are Zoro, Mihawk, and the Admirals. I don't give a shit what happens to the rest.
4. Villains
OP's best (aka Doffy) is very clearly outnumbered by FMA's best (Tucker, Bradley, and Kimblee).
5. Character designs
FMA character design makes them fit their personality, OP depends on how goofy they would look in a gag.
6. Power system
FMA has no power system, so this goes to OP's poorly written power system by defeault.
7. Story arcs
FMA hands down, and I believe no explanation is necessary.
8. Incorporation of themes
The themes FMA handled well far surpass the themes OP handled well (if there's even any at this point).
9. Art
Gee, badass vs goofy. I wonder who this goes to.
10. Imagery
Self-explanatory, really.
11. Panelling
The fluidity of Arakawa's panelling is well-known, so I am not going to insult her work by comparing it to Lolda's.
12. Originality
Another messiah chosen one story vs The Greatest Sci-fi Manga Ever written?
13. World building
OP wins, obviously.
14. Characterization
Seriously?
15. Enjoyment
Final Verdict:
FMA 13 - 2 OP, in a brutal blowout.
If you wanna compare OP to some other series, compare it to generic Shounen series like Bleach, Naruto, Fairy Tail, and the likes. Don't compare it to literal GOAT-level series ala FMA, JJBA, CSM, SXF, etc. because you're just asking OP to get murderstomped by doing that.
