Both OP and FMA are narratives where the main character has to go on a physical journey. Luffy’s journey is more expansive than the Elric brothers because he sails around the world searching for the one piece. Ed and Al’s world is more centrally located, but I never got the impression that Arakawa was trying to build an extensive world. Instead, the focus was more on Ed and Al’s development, their growth, their relationships with one another and those around them, and their ideals.

Arakawa also wasn’t afraid to challenge Ed and Al’s worldview. Their experiences shaped who they were and lessons weren’t forgotten. Also female characters in FMA are multifaceted. There’s a wide variety with various experiences and capabilities that help progress and not hinder the plot.

Aye. Yeah I can see why it would deserve such high praise.
Hiromu Arakawa is a really cool mangaka. I also liked her Silver Spoon, it's a totally different manga, slice of life, about student life in an agricultural college. It's a lot lighter, but still very enjoyable. I'm trying to follow her latest work, Yomi no Tsugai, there are only 14 chapters so far and it's monthly, but the plot twist are already crazy.

Having finished FMA finally, it's by far a better story than One Piece. And I enjoyed it more than OP.

Haven't heard of these but the second seems interesting upon googling it.

Glad you enjoyed it! Silver Spoon might be not everyone's cup of tea, it's good but it's more like shoujo and not shounen. Also, agriculture & farming might not seem very interesting to everyone. I'm actually surprised that manga got green lit, ngl :lusnipe:

Yomi no Tsugai is more like FMA so far, but it's just so short for now:pepeke:

Yeah FMA was pretty good with a good wrap up and all. Can't say I was too shocked because giving up alchemy to get their bodies back was an idea I had while reading it but good execution.

Yeah lol agriculture didn't really seem like my thing lol. Oh yeah I saw it has like 15 chapters only thus far.

At this point in many stories many twists are something you'd expect knowing the genre and having seen/read many similar works. So I'm often interested not in what will happen, but how, and if the autor can make it logical and interesting. Like, you always expect shounen MC to win, but when it's executed beautifully, it's amazing, when it's full of BS, you stop enjoying the story. That's my beef with most of shounen stories, in the beginning the characters have certain limits and have to fight smart, in the end it's just hax OP abilities against other hax OP abilities. I really liked Luffy vs Crocodile a lot more that Luffy vs Kaido, same with Sanji vs Absalom vs Sanji vs Queen. I don't remember fights in FMA now, but I liked the consequences for some of the characters, e.g. Roy, and also some of the plot twist were still surprising for me (Pride lol). With OP I gave up on plot twists, but I like it's lore. That's why I like Egghead arc, but the traitor plot seemed really unnecessary to me, especially after so many traitors previously.

Yeah I agree. Sometime it's better to see how it plays out even if you can predict it. I had managed to predict that Julius will be the 4th Zogratis sibling but was still quite interested in how it will work out.
