If this is the last time we see Gaban fight then I think it was lackluster, not from a power scaling perspective though. When it comes to establishing Gabans power status I believe Odas done enough but when looking at the other old legends final performances we see them go all out and show us a glimpse of what they were in their primes against top tier enemies. With Gaban we didn't even get a full chapter, against a non top tier, he isn't even using his signature 2 axe style and finishes the fight with low difficulty. As a final showcase I expected more content, but if he's going to be a more active part of the arc then it's fine.
All in all the hostage situation while obvious, depending on what Oda does with Gaban from this point on, it could be seen as rushed. So many Sanji fans are celebrating that Gaban showed all the neat haki they want Sanji to have but that never meant as much to me as just seeing more of what Gaban can do, because I like Gaban independent of Sanji, so i want him to be done justice as a character and as a fighter. Because If anybody doubted how powerful he was after his introduction they weren't to be taken seriously anyway.
