Shamrock is going to be the main villain of the arc and will fight Luffy, Garling will be saved towards the end of the series along with the other Elders and Imu.

Garling is not going to be anyone’s main villain. He is already a subordinate villain who is looked down on by his equally ranking elders. There is no arc where he is the main antagonist, he will be the equivalent of a right hand man to Imu, either a Zoro, Shanks, or Dragon opponent.

If Kata can be an arc villain, so can garling

Garling, who is likely a better fighter than Saturn, would surely be an extreme diff fight for Luffy, with Luffy likely needing a power up to bypass immortality. Making him perfect as an arc villain.

I personally feel like it is too early for Garling to show up. He was just promoted, I cannot see him showing up and being the villain of Elbaph. If he Luffy figures out how to deal with the immortality thing it shouldn't be at Garling's expense and if he ends up getting away like Elbaph Garling would just killed by Imu the same way Saturn did. It wouldn't feel right or sit well with readers imo.

Not to long ago everyone was saying that Teach would kill Shanks. I am not sure that Garling is slated to be Shanks opponent.
It's possible but I am not seeing what connects the 2 as opponents other than blood ties (which isn't enough for me).

I don't think Oda actually likes doing that thing. Like Sanji never "got back" at judge who still looks down on him and hates him, he just moved on and found a new "family" that makes him happy. Shanks killing Garling would almost signify that his biological family matters to him. Ofc I could be wrong, but that's just my assumption.

Garling (evil father) vs Shanks (Good son) is pretty simple built up imo.

Shanks may not die but simply lose against BB tbf. Or he gets killed against BB post garling defeat.

Given we already have an example of Sanji and Judge I really don't see Oda going this route I will humor you though. What would be Shanks is motivation for this fight? Where does Shanks fight with Garling take place? What is the actual build up for this encounter?

The HK's can't simply start such a big thing without orders from above.
