My face when the author of the manga that preaches since years ago Roger and Garp were at each other throat at every oppurtinity are equals: I thought you waking up from zoros bros gaslighting thought you author intent > headcanon
The thing is Oda never treated Garp with as much care as he did with WB and Roger's images. He's like the Mihawk in this scenario where Oda was ok with him looking somewhat compromised. Except he never had the title to make it a real dispute either.
But yea there is a lesson in here, Mihawk is > Shanks.
This chapter de legitimized any fraud claims for Garp, I was one of them who was skeptical about Garp due to things like struggling and training for Chinjao. But that is irrelevant now, it just means Chinjao's drill was that powerful.
We just got confirmation that Roger and Garp using AdCoC and AdCoA were near the beginning of their long careers together. So even the weakest versions of themselves that were going at it were top tiers, it's only up from here. Garp and Roger were as legit of contemporaries as they come, heck I'm starting to question WB more than Garp atm. That narrator box placing Garp, Roger, and Xebec together is massive.
I'm still expecting Roger to edge out a bigger piece of the pie in GV...but as for Garp being a fraud...It's over.
Tbf, Garp didn't train to "beat" Chinjao. He trained to completely flatten Chinjao's ice continent drilling cone head and end his career permanently with one clash.
Aokiji was spending his youth training his punches with Garp, and apparently they were more effective than using his base DF powers which Garp was walking through casually. Not to mention that Aokiji was enhancing his punches with his DF (basically a punching version of ice time, which requires a touch only) to cause frost bites in the process. Fighting an old, washed Garp with a stabbed abdomen.
Garp was portrayed as Rayleigh's Bitch in his old age, his presentation was no where near Rayleigh's and now we learn that Garp was fighting version of Roger who was so young he didn't even have a mustache and their "clash" is one of the most underwhelming clashes ever

Because that was kinda the narrative of the story. Prime Roger before his execution said, that he and Garp encountered themselves in battle many times or even fought to near death (depending on the translation, as far as I know latter was confirmed as an authentic translation), with Garp having been said to have cornered Roger many times. Obviously, Roger and Garp shared some fierce rivalry as evident from this chapter, and now the narrator even highlighted Roger, Garp and Xebec.
Man, I kinda feel bad for Whitebeard who is just being a number in the Rocks pirates. Lol.
Signs were always there for example he literally had to train to beat Don Chinjao when he is in his Prime.
And his dialogues implies that he probably tried before and he couldn't do so he had to be better this time
And then equaling Aokiji in contest of fists
But this chapter reveals what I always thought.
Garp was portrayed as Rayleigh's Bitch in his old age, his presentation was no where near Rayleigh's and now we learn that Garp was fighting version of Roger who was so young he didn't even have a mustache and their "clash" is one of the most underwhelming clashes ever
Forget that lack of sky split which is status quo for a Yonko level clash but these conqueror's Haki sparks are so pathetic they make Yamato vs Kaido look legendary in comparison
Look at Roger's Actual Equal where Roger has Full Mustache
Looks like in his late 30s
Probably close to if not actually in his prime
The whole terrain was impacted by their clash
You can't tell me Garp doesn't looks like a fucking joke right here?
And if you think Garp equaling in attack power with Rookie Roger means they are forever equals then you guys have to apply same logic to Luffy and Zoro as well
