Didn't you? Aren't people selling faraway stars and stuff like that all the time?
I've heard of names of stars being sold, bits of the moon and random plots of land in Scotland and Ireland, that "established titles" nonsense scam or w/e but I thought something like this would be a step too far for people, crossing too many lines.
But then again, its not like we have all these scam artist televangelists/faith healers and said megachurches in the first place ofc.
Idk whether I'm more shocked by the audacity of this or that it's actually succesful and there's not much bigger outrage about it.
Now I think about it, there was a Youtuber who openly impersonates/roleplays as Jesus, however you wanna phrase it and he was raking in money from doing it too AFAIK.
As I was saying to a friend elsewhere, humanity doesn't scrape the bottom of the barrel, we're way beyond that, we're trying to scrape the bottom of a bottomless pit, a never ending game of Limbo and moving goalposts to fulfil their endless greed and ambitions.
I always thought doing something like this would be one of those things you could not get away with, but clearly I'm still too naive on how much shittiness and hypocrisy humans can get away with.
We can debate morality/ethics of them doing this and play devil's advocate but for me, this is just sickening regardless and one of the reasons I strictly avoid religion too. I've seen microcosms of stuff like this but this is on a whole new extreme level of depravity for me.
