Palestine is the homeland of the Jewish people. While Judaism is a religion(in addition to an ethnicity) and converts do exist, they are a small minority of Jews and most end up marrying ethnic Jews.
Because of the ethnoreligious nature of Judaism, Jews have a connection to the land that Christians and Muslims simply do not.
Ever since the Jews were kicked out of Israel, for
Nearly 2000 years, they have dreamed of returning.
This dream was kept alive by the fact that Jews were outcasts and rejected by almost any society they were pushed into. At one time or another, almost every country in Europe expelled the Jews.
At the turn of the 20th century, antisemitism had reached new heights. In the Russia, you had brutal pogroms that were orchestrated by the Tsar. You also had the Dreyfus affair earlier, where a Jew was being scapegoated and falsely accused of treason.
So what did Jews do when they were faced with the fact that their current homelands rejected them and wanted to eradicate them? They moved to the only other homeland they knew. Their ancestral homeland.
Can you argue that there were better solutions to antisemitism than creating israel? Maybe. But the fact is, in that time, Zionism was the only tool Jews had in order to liberate themselves. It was only by utilizing the 2000 year long lasting dream of the Jewish people that Jews around the world were able to fight for a world where they wouldn’t be oppressed.
Should they just have stayed in Europe/Muslim countries and tried to fight for rights within said countries? Did they not try that for hundreds of years? And where did that get them?
When Jews were being murdered by the nazis, the world did nothing. Nobody wanted to take in the Jews that wished to flee Germany. Jews entrusted their futures to non-Jewish countries and said countries did jack shit when they were being systematically annihilated. So why should Jews entrust their futures to the benevolence of non-Jews any longer?
Anyways my point is, while obviously Israeli and some of the Zionists have done awful things, I think the early Zionists honestly made the best decisions they could have given the situation at the time.

Ukraine was minding it own business when Russia suddenly decided to annex part of its country(twice already btw). The Palestine and Israeli conflict has been going on for decades now
