I can respect right wingers when they're honest and well educated. Most of my friends back home lean right and disagree with me 60-70% of the time. But they wouldn't be dumb enough to even entertain the idea that people like Petro or Lula are communists. Maduro? Left wing and an authoritarian socialist.

The problem is not that he is confusing communism or socialism or woke people with the ancient left. The problem is that he is confusing liberals with leftists. This is a common trope among the far right to think that because liberals can lean toward social progress (LGBQTQ+ right / women's right etc.) then they are leftist/communist.

I don't mind being confused with a communists as I know my political compass will eventually point toward this average direction with my knowledge advancing. What I have a problem with though, is to be confused with right wingers.
