Science isn't a monolith or institution
It's the works of scientists from hundreds of different fields. And since they're all individuals, they can succumb to the same corruption regular joes succumb to - thus contorting their findings to fit within frameworks they've been paid to promote
Of course, their percentage cannot be that great, but scientific findings have been used to promote political ideologies and movements throughout the years (like the racist "scientific" papers that gave us today's verbal cannon fodder for racial discourse)
