So remember when we first got to onigashima and there was this giant sword in the island, and how a bunch of people had speculations about the sword? I think the most common theory was that Kid was going to use the sword.
Well what happened? Kid and Law vs Big Mom came and went and the sword wasn't used. Okay, maybe Oda saved it for something else. Kaido has flame clouds, maybe he could use it? Nope, okay.
Then Luffy used his giant G5 form and everyone assumed that now that Luffy has a giant form, he will use the giant sword. What happened? Nothing, absolutely nothing. The giant sword was utterly inconsequential to the story and was little more than a set piece.
Am I just nitpicking? Yes.
But also, I think its kinda shitty for Oda to include something so eye-catching, like a giant sword sticking out of the island, and just have nobody use it, despite there being multiple characters who could have used it.
It just seems like a massive wasted opportunity. Imagine if instead of Kid's ultimate move being damned punk, an attack that utterly paled in visual comparison to puncture wille, Kid blasted big mom down the hole by slamming her with the giant sword. Wouldn't that be so much more impactful for the defeat of a yonko, than for Linlin to ultimately KO herself by punching a bomb?
Or for Luffy vs Kaido, would it not have been epic if Kaido lifted up the giant sword, maybe even coated it in flames, and then threw it at G5 Luffy? Would that not be better than having him simply spam the same 3 moves over and over again? G5 Luffy vs Kaido, for the most part, felt less serious than chapters 1037 and 1042, and we also never saw Kaido use his flame clouds seriously in a fight, apart from simply making himself fly. If Kaido can use his flame clouds to lift an island, wouldn't this be a useful ability in his fight against Luffy?
Anyways, sorry for nitpicking, but I think Oda wasted a big opportunity and could have made either Luffy vs Kaido or Kid and Law vs Big Mom way more impactful.
