That's exactly what I've been hoping for too! We already know Zoans and some DFs have wills or souls of their own, so maybe they were all demons and deities once, but I like the idea that they were somehow killed and sealed away in the past and cursed into fruits so as to stop them from messing with the world. Ryuma killing the demon of Wano and it becoming Kaido's fruit and the reason why he was so obsessed with destroying Wano would be pretty poetic and give him some more depth.
But if I'm right it was said that only Zoans have a will of their own... Right? So at least for ALL DFs my theory is not correct but can still be the case for Zoans. Specially the God/Mythical ones.

Are they even zoans? Oda not giving us fruit names but only the Yokai/animals is pretty sus
I'm betting all my hopes on them being demon lords.

Evil-Ancient-Demon-Confirmation stonks looking bullish!

Very true, but Daifuku's fruit did have a genie he could summon and Jabra did say something similar thing about DFs being actual devils back in Ennies Lobby. Another possibility is that all zoans were ancient animal spirits, deities and demons, and that the paramecia and logia fruits are actually Nika or some other being's powers (maybe Imu and the Gorosei?) sealed into separate forms. After all, some of the Gorosei have some rather nasty scars like they might've lost a very important fight a long time ago, and maybe that's when some of their powers were sealed away.

I know Vegapunk already prestend his "DFs are made from dreams and wishes for human development" theory, but its still only presented as a theory, which means it may be open to change. :pepemwai:

And Bonney already proved that she can't de-age the Gorosei, which means they may be ageless.

I still think Gorosei are devils or demons and thus cannot "awaken" in the devil fruit sense. Oda has now shown all five and their transformations, but not given out their devil fruit names. They also seemingly "transform" via the magic circle, unlike literally all other zoans we see.
This theory is similar to the "kaido is an actual dragon who ate the ogre fruit" one that was very widespread 5 years ago. It would be very interesting if that was the case but i just dont see it happening. Why would they have hybrid and full beast forms if they arent devil fruit users.

I believe they have indeed eaten devil fruits and due to their vast age had more than enough time to awaken them. Their "immortality" was probably given by Imu since they were born after the void century so they arent really immortal gods by nature.
Even budhaa and nika fruits are just fruits and not actual gods.

When she tried de-aging Saturn and her powers didn't work in chapter 1103.
Is Bonney unaware of haki? Haki couldn't simply deny those effects.

Says who? Where is confirmed they are born after Void Century?

And Nika was an actual God/person from Void Century.

Since she's a kid, she may just be ignorant, but then again she must've learned about it after the timeskip considering how more common it is in the New World. Oda probably wouldn't have made her question why her power didn't work on Saturn if Oda didn't have plan for it to have narrative significance, which I think implies that the Gorosei are ageless demons who have always looked the way they do since whenever it was they came into existence.

Its all interesting to me, which is why I hope Ivankov is wrong about Imu being Saint Imu since that would be too simple an explanation.

Chapter 1086. Ivankov is reading a book about world nobles and finds an entry on a "Saint Imu" and he theorizes that Imu and Saint Imu are one and the same.

I'm personally not fond of this explanation turning out to be true because it would be too cut and dried.
We know that those 20 royal families from first sovereign to join WG live there at Mariejoia. And Imu is there. Would make sense for this except the fact that he hide himself... Maybe because of the eternal youth that he has? But then would mean that Gorosei doesn't have it?

Too awkward
