Powers & Abilities Gorosei; The Demons Within

#23
If the gorosei are just replaceable pawns that are controlled by the will of their zoan fruits for generations that really makes me wonder about the nika quote; they mentioned that zoans have a will of their own...

And this could explain why Imu's room is a garden.

I’m really just hoping it’s not the “aliens” route. That idea may have been fresh in 1999 when Oda started out, but its done to death now.
Demons are definitely a better option, with Imu being the sea Devil itself.
Agreed. The Gorosei being real demons would be way more frightening and unpredictable. Hopefully the Lunarians will be the only aliens the story is interested in and they hopefully don't tie into deep with the origin of the actual demons.

It could be possible for some, but I take Mercury's statement as he is implying that some of them have lived an extremely long time.

It doesn't makes sense otherwise for him to say "That fruit is a Legend now, even to us." If they were born within the century, then the fact that the fruit hasn't awakened in Centuries would obviously be a legend to them. So him saying a fruit that hasn't awakened centuries, is a legend to even them, implies they are much much older than the average human lives.

I think they all come from varying time periods, and have been recruited throughout the Generations, with Im-sama being the oldest, and Ju Peter being the youngest. It would make sense considering the only way to gain immortality is through the Ope Ope no Mi, and once someone performs the perennial Youth Surgery they would have to look for the Ope Ope no Mi, all over again.

it just doesn't make much sense to me that every X amount of years, they replace a member of the Gorosei with someone new battle hardened Zealot, who has an undying devotion to Im-Sama.

What to expect of their devil fruits:
Gorosei's fruits will definitely not be some run of the mill zoan fruits. The demons inside them have ''possessed'' generations upon generations of diabetic old men who rule the world, with each demon having centuries of history and combat experience. The Gorosei are simply vassals to an eternal demonic power.
If this true nature of theirs is exposed then it would rub everyone the wrong way
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this part :finally:🤩🤩

The Gorosei as an entity that governs the world is known to everyone world wide. It is also safe to say anyone with a little brain or skill on them knows these old men aren't your average joe. What are these scars doing on these old men, they aren't really trying to hide them, what about Venus with his sword and samurai attire. Observation haki can certainly allow anyone to gauge their presence and strength level.

What the Gorosei are truly hiding is the nature of their devil fruit powers. First off, would anyone really bat an eye if the guys governing the world had a bunch of zoan fruits? Not really, no reason to rub anyone off. The reason they are hiding their powers is because they are actual devils as Sabo says here

Gorosei themselves are replacable, but their devil fruits are not. Likely, there has been constant recirculation for their powers through Imu's garden.
We see here Mercury and Venus lecturing the young Jupiter about the Nika fruit ''only a legend even to us''

Meaning, if Cobra entered this room 800 years ago he would've seen the very same demons he saw now, but using different vassals only
I think this is essential to establish a difference between average mindless creatures like a dragon or a phoenix, and actual demons who have controlled the world for centuries upon centuries. The original hosts who willed these powers to existance didn't do it for a laugh

They look kinda goofy as silhouettes but I think Oda will deliver

I've looked into possible demons that fit Saturn's looks and personality, and this is what I came up with
''The horrible demon named Molech is depicted as a half-man, half-bull, Minotaur-like figure with a belly made of fire, who symbolized some of the darkest traits of humankind. He is a symbol of brawn over brains, a hot-headed demon with no regard for the sanctity of human life.''

Moloch is a demon who sought child sacrifices. Conveniently enough we have this.

''He is a symbol of brawn over brains, a hot-headed demon''

Not the most articulated thread but thought I'd share my thoughts
@Elder Lee Hung @MarineHQ @Xione @Paperchampion23 @Sentinel etc
The best demons to describe Saturn, is a Yokai. There is a spider Yokai in Japanese culture, he seems to embody in One Piece. And if you look at the sillouetts of a few other Gorosei, you will find that those also look like some kind of Yokai.

Sorry, if I am just linking the things I want to show you - this way I do not have to write that much again. :optimistic:

He could also just as likely be the demon king Baal who also appears as a monstrous spider since his summoning pentagram is a western thing that's not associated with the japanese Ushi oni.

Asmodeus form would be dope
Agreed, but so far none of the Gorosei's transformed silhouettes look like they might be based on Asmodeus. Unless its Mercury or Ju Peter since their forms are hard to make out. All you really see from Ju Peter is a really big head, same with Mercury since all you see is his head and mustache which may leave more room for their bodies to be eldritch horrors.

I'm assuming oda will take inspirations from that book of a writer who allegedly went to hell and saw the 7 kings

If it was only the spider theme, I would not think of a Yokai first, but during Cobras murder in Imu's conference room, we also saw the sillouetts of the other Gorosei and I noticed that two other of them do fit common Yokai "races" quite well. That is why I strongly think Oda could be referring to the Yokai-theme in general.

Which two? You mean Mars and Nasujuro (those two seemed like the most detailed)? Its possible but I think it could go both ways. Mars's bird form could easily be either a tengu or one of several demon lords who look like birds. While Nasujuro looks humanoid enough that he could be any humanoid yokai or humanoid demon lord.

Do you mean the Ars Goetia? Then yeah, that one has lots of creepy and disturbing designs to choose from. :believe:

They would make for some great villain transformations. :bignews:
Imagine gorosei spawning from their circles like this:

Another great book someone has to read, if that someone likes creepy stuff is the Voynich manuscript: This is a book from the 15 hundrets, whichs purpose to this very day is still unknown. The reason is that it is written in a code - or code-language - not even the best code-reader could decipher as of now.
What makes the book so creepy however, is the fact that there are some very strange pictures and creatures depicted in it, which are sometimes more than disturbing.

I'm sorry, but I can't post the more mature stuff here.

Now that's ghastly!
What do you think the remaining two Gorosei could be?
No idea. Mercury just looks like he has a large head with small pig-like ears and his mustache already looks like a pair of tusks, so he could be a bakeinoshishi (monster boar yokai) or Ciriatto a demon lord said to look like a tusky boar. Ju Peter only appears as a giant humanoid head, so he could be anything.

Ju Peter could be a Kodama:

I could not find the name "bakeinoshishi". Do you have an image?

Ju Peter could be a Kodama:
His weirdly positioned face does make it possible but I think that design for the Kodama is exclusive to Ghibli. Kodama come in a number of forms in the original folktales, with some appearing as bugs, lights, animals and even humans. Though I definitely prefer the Ghibli design since it feels more unique.

Its just an oversized boar with scary eyes.

But there's a cooler looking one called the Inosasaou.

It was a big boar yokai covered in bamboo leaves who was killed by a legendary hunter. His ghost later sought vengeance against the hunter. Its ghost was later bound and was said to have become the ippondatara which now looked nothing like a boar, instead manifesting as a one eyed and one legged freak of nature.

Those pointy things we see Mercury sporting could really be tusks. And if I see your picture, I think this is very much possible. (The last picture looks like Zoro has turned into a boar (green top with a sword around its belly. :milaugh:)

Isn't Ju Peter also the god of Agriculture? It would at least fit with the nature-theme of the Kodama-Yokai. Ghibli has some awesome designs! I love the films very much.
