Character Discussion Hard Truth Why Oda Favors Zoro More Than Luffy and Sanji

Now this is not a Zoro bash thread. Serious discussion on why Oda is favoring Zoro more than other M3 members like Sanji or even more than the captain and MC Luffy...

Let's be honest: Zoro is cool with Santouryu and Samurai type behaviours which makes him a fan favorite for no doubt.

But while Zoro is like this being favored by Oda and not being lowballed like Sanji? Or even like Luffy?

The answer is : because Zoro is DUMB.

Now before you say Luffy, I agree Luffy is dumb too. And Sanji too when it comes to women.

But Luffy is the captain and not only this he has one ability that makes him special, much more special than Zoro:

As Mihawk said; to ability to gain allies.

Both Luffy and Zoro are dumb. But only Luffy has this special social ability not Zoro.

If Oda shit on Luffy and Sanji less, then Zoro will look even worse because he also makes Zoro dumb like Luffy.

But again; Luffy has an excuse to that because he has the special ability to gain allies and friends in a short time, and he is a very special leader. Zoro has none of this abilities. He needs to be cool.

So you Luffy and Sanji fans need to understand this fact, then you also have to understand why Oda gives a pass to Zoro most of the time and why he doesn't shit on Zoro too much and why he try to make Zoro look cool more than Luffy and Sanji most of the time.

As for Sanji yes he is definitely dumb when it comes to women but except for that you need to admit that he is the smartest M3 member; look at Enies Lobby arc ending and how he make Enel cry at Skypiea arc.

In addition to Sanji's intelligence, he is also an excellent cook, that every rich people in the world would probably want him to prepare their food for them.

So the reason why Oda shits on Luffy and Sanji is because he gave extra special abilities to these two while Zoro has none of it. He is just the fighter of SH pirates he didn't even made him ''officially'' vice captain like Rayleigh. So when you consider this, this is actually a fair trade.

Zoro = no special abilities, just fighter thus it shouldn't be lowballed
Luffy = captain, effective leader, special ability like gaining allies, even turning his enemies into allies
Sanji = intelligent, and an excellent cook

I see some people with bad reading comprehension, who mainly didn't read the manga is trying to deny the narrative of Oda, which is clearly that Zoro is dumb and they said this in the manga several times, even Zoro's own nakama, doctor Chopper saying Zoro is dumb;

Obviously if Oda favours naïveté and innocence in his characters, he would prefer Luffy and Zoro whose mentalities are very similar in that respect.

Oda goes out of his way to make Zoro opponents special. Hachi is prevalent in the story even after losing, then Kaku good enough to make it to cp0, Mr. 1 is woth Crocdile. Then Oda literally didn't introduce Zoro BB opponent until impel down where he has a special introduction for him saying he equal to Magallan who neg diff BB crew and had 2 warlords,Luffy etc.... Running. Oda will always treat Zoro different. Its cause he one of tge cornerstones of one piece.

I think you mean why Zoro gets more badass scenes. Which is true...badass scenes are at this point detrimental for Zoro. He doesnt not have the social interactions and stand out character moments Luffy and Sanji have. Looking "cool" and saying a oneliner is essential to his character.

I dont think Oda shits on Luffy or Sanji. Lets be honest, this manga is like his children. He might have his favorites, but he surely loves the characters, mainly the strawhats, more than you and I do. That said, I agree to your main point. Zoro must shine as a fighter. If he dosnt get extra focus as a combatant, what's he doing in this crew? Everyone else has a legit role other than Zoro. There will be more questions now that Jinbei joined the crew. Either Oda has to give him the VC title officially or have to wank his fighting abilities, simple.

And we already have seen that Oda bases sanji off of himself and sanji has the most room for gags backstory and future character development.


Oda wrote himself into a corner with Zoro years ago and he can’t play around with his character as much.


its actually arguable that sanji is Odas favorite considering he gave him a whole arc about his backstory and the most character developement in the series.

Like I seriously don’t see Oda making a arc about a character he supposedly hates when sanjis backstory could have been resolved in a very short arc or even just explained.

there’s no preferring nonsense. Zoros supposed to be like an action star. A badass and that’s why everyone loves zoro.

Luffys supposed to be the most lovable out of the three.

Sanjis supposed to be a mix of luffys gags Zoros badass moments and his character development.

people say Oda loves zoro way more but there has been no proof of that at any point. Just because he makes Zoros trait being a badass doesn’t mean Oda prefers him.

Zoros role is also the fighter of the crew you can’t make the fighter look like a jackass and have gags. Zoro also has the I will never lose line so again very restricted.

The real reason why Oda loves Zoro more than most characters in one piece is because hes based off Ryuma. And ryuma was one of the first characters he created (monsters).

Oda favours Luffy, nami and zoro and that is an obvious thing, they are still his main characters of the manga. These three were already planned from his previous works too. And he himself refers those three in his messages.

Oda favors Luffy. Everyone else gets their respective panel time in which they specialize in. Making Zoro do badass things, and shine when it it comes to putting him in fights isn't "favoritism", it's Zoro's purpose in the crew. Like imagine if Sanji made terrible food, or Nami always got them lost, or Choppers medicine made people worse. Oda isn't going to make any of them look bad in their positions in the crew. Zoro is a fighter, so Oda makes him look good in that regard. He's no more favorited than any of the other Straw Hats.
