General & Others Has Akainu been underwhelming since the TS?

#43
When i have heard about Akainu becoming the boss of the Marine,i imagined Marine becoming like the Gestapo. Instead it remained almost the same. It is disappointing indeed. But maybe Oda is purposely showing us Akainu getting trolled many times, because he plans to show us him rebelling to all those rules and act like he wants later in the story. Who knows.

I think Akainu being weighed down by the burdens of leadership in the World Gov is one of the most realistic and interesting things Oda's done actually. I know subverting expectations is a buzzword now that generally means "make a garbage decision that makes no sense", but in this case my expectations were subjected in a good way. Yes, I thought he'd be leading a super fascist group of Marines. The reality that he's totally hamstrung by the various factions in the World Gov (and you've got Sengoku laughing at him that being Fleet Admiral isn't as easy as he thought it would be) is a path that can really let us see more to the character than I thought we'd get.

I don't know what's worse between

-Imbeciles thinking that the fleet admiral can act like a pirate and start a conflict on a whim (against pirates OR the WG)

-People with no reading comprehension who see Sakazuki as a no brain brute when he has shown to be more cautious (like staying behind at the beginning of the war to protect the platform) and cunning (turning Squard against WB and trash talking Ace to end up turning him into a donut)

But I understand the trolling, Yoncucks will be done in about 50 chapters so let them enjoy it while they can

Being a fleet admiral effectively makes him a paper pusher.

Before the timeskip he was the only Admiral aloud to roam the seas. Kizaru was always stationed in HQ as a shield for the Celestials and it's also heavily implied Aokiji was the same given the uproar we saw at HQ during the end of Davy Back fight arc. Right now Bull and Kizaru are the HQ stand in Admirals while Fuji is the one given free reign to roam the seas.

I think being made a paper pusher has affected him. He isn't smart like Sengoku to begin with to come with grand strategies. All he does now is react to events :josad:

During MF, Akainu seemed like a ruthless mofo who doesn’t take shit from anybody and who would do anything to kill the pirates and enforce Absolute Justice, but this changed after the TS. In all of the times that we have seen him since the TS, he was either getting his authority undermined by Fujitora, getting trash talked by the Gorosei and being treated like a yappy dog, or being too scared to attack the Kaido and BM alliance. Has Oda changed Akainu’s characterization after the TS?
- Akainu as the fleet admiral gave the order to move the headquarters to the new world to face the yonko. No other chief of the marines did anything like this before him.

Under Akainu's command the navy has grown more powerful than ever before. And I want to see another high ranking Marine insulting the gorosei in the face just like Akainu did.

And I want to see where it shows that Akainu is afraid of going to wano for yonko?

- The navy is busy with various issues that are happening at the same time in the world.

- The shishibukai system is abolished.
- The revolutionaries and the incident with Sabo.
-Escorting Kings.
- Something happened at the end o the reverie and the alabasta kingdom is involved in it.
Garp says the marines are using it full resources to solve this matter.

That is why it is important to read and watch the manga properly so as not to be repeating nonsense....

I don't really see a problem here. Akainu is just realizing with position/power comes responsibility. Now he is leading a whole organization he just cannot go all out and start messing up with big guns ignoring the cost of material and human resources.
Also, he has to now answer to higher ups. Pretty sure he will do something big when the time is right. We saw Marines against WB pirates they had to face the consequences even though they won so it is obvious doing something against 2 yonkos is pretty stupid when you are short on resources.

Dunno. He's definitely quiet for a character like his but If we are talking about underwhelming characters it would be Big Mom and Kaido. Mere Yonko yikes.
Yeah we only saw like 4 or 5 panels of akainu since timeskip so i don't think that it's enough to determine whether he's overwhelming or underwhelming, but kaido was hyped alot and didn't actually deliver

this is the most underwhelming part of post ts.
not really seeing the change in akainu's character that folks are talking about. its been hinted since prets , he can be reasoned with.
from keeping bonney alive
allowing aokiji to walk
its just not his place to have a major stake in the story, its currently the saga for the clowns you see above where big mom cant even threaten the likes of brook, franky, nami, and chopper as much as someone like doflamingo would. utterly disappointing. lets not get started on an emperor in cahoots with the same gorosei folks shit on akainu for.
