The fact that Luffy is stronger than Kizaru and maybe with a discret margin, and the fact that Kizaru's boys taked a big L, doesn't change that this fight is one of the worst in the manga.

Not a fight but I've said it already, that's what we're getting with G5. It's a trolling ability, no opponent will be taken seriously from now on by Luffy when he uses this form.
Maybe BB with the Yami Yami will cancel his df and we might see a good fight again from Luffy but I haven't got much hope.

Anyway, the fight so far has been fine even though it’s not been a traditional one. Wasn’t expecting a dragged out affair to begin with considering the situation, so we’ll see how it wraps up. Still think it’s the best time to show a logia awakening.
I don't think gear 5 is a bad concept, it's certainly much cooler looking than gear 4, it was just poorly executed and it's also annoying that Oda has gone down the 'chosen one' route, when one of the main charms of Luffy is that he had a shitty ability and did his best with it.
Maybe we'll come across an opponent that can wipe the smile off gear 5's face that would be interesting writing.

One Piece doesn't have fights. One Piece is a story telling series. Oda writes is to achieve whatever outcome he wants. G5 has a time limit so Kizaru had to be one shotted. The same Luffy got taken out by Apoo back in Wano. Shit is going to happen in One Piece based on what Oda wants to accomplish. If Kizaru was knocked out his eyes should have been white but he is just laying there having a conversation. The nature of star gun is a cartoon effect where the victim see stars. Oda clearly is about to let his imagination run wild with what Luffy can do.

We’ve already had some exposition on devil fruits, and it’s the perfect place to expand on them with Vegapunk’s research. He mentioned that logias are difficult to replicate for example, so we could get more insight on how awakening is tied into all this.
We can also focus on the awakening here instead of getting the various Admirals all having awakenings crammed into 1 arc later on in the final war.
