Questions & Mysteries How did Shanks become a Yonko?

I assume Shanks became a Yonko just by being strong himself and having a strong crew.

Since Shanks is part of the original four yonkos along with Whitebeard, Kaido and Big Mom, he didn't have to beat any other yonko to get the title. The four of them all got the yonko title for being in a stalemate from fighting each other.

As for the practical reasons, i think that being able to have duels with mihawk and possibly having the strongest active pirate crew along with some territory and subordinate crews would be enough for Shanks to be recognized as a yonko.

Big Mom and WB rushed early on and became great pirates (Shiki too). Kaido joined them and then much latter Shanks. The term yonko was probably coined 6yrs ago

Buggy might become an Emperor due to manipulation from someone in WG/News Crew.

Luffy was called an Emperor because that talking chicken starting spreading fake news lol.

Shanks' name became famous because he started having clashes with the already famous Mihawk.

The simple fact that he can walk into Mariejois tells me his title was manipulated 🤷🏾‍♂️

How did the first Yonko (Emperor) become a Yonko? He or She could not have fought a Yonko since they were the first one. It's like the question, "which came first the chicken or the egg?" I don't think you have to defeat another Yonko to become one. It all depends on their individual power (Shanks is obviously strong going by the meeting with Whitebeard), has a powerful crew and is very influential (Seems to have some connection to the Celestial Dragons or at least with the 5 grandpas). Basically, my point is that defeating a Yonko is not the only way to become one.

Don't think there were any "first yonko". At Least 3 great pirates had to be there for deadlock.

Do we know when they got Yanko title ?
As much i know that Warlord system was created to counter Yanko (which mean four emperors)

So my take is , Shanks forcefully make his own place by fighting existing big three . Then WG aknowledged him Yanko and create Warlord to prevent raise of next big pirate
