Dragon and Akainu have been theorized to have a history with one another since Marineford. However, we know that Akainu joined the marines 32 years ago at the age of 23 whereas Dragon quit the marines 38 years ago at the age of 17. The previously common theory was that Dragon and Akainu were comrades in the Marines but that can’t be the case according to the current timeline unless Oda retcons Akainu’s age of joint the marines. However, this seems unlikely since he changed the idea of BM giving the Dragon DF to Katakuri on the basis of Vivre Card data.

Thus, My current theory is that Akainu served a Garp/Smoker role to a young Dragon as he was founding the Freedom Fighters (The precursor to the Revolutionary Army). We know he from the Kuma flashback Dragon was leading this group at the very latest since 25 years before the present but the 13 years between then and God Valley are a mystery.

The only thing we know about Sakazuki in the same period is that during the Edd War in Chapter 0, 27 years ago, he was stationed at Navy HQ under Tsuru

I think most people expected a more personal relationship considering how much Akainu emphasized Dragon in MF and how they are the exact same age just like other rivals in the story like Mihawk and Shanks

Whitebeard not fighting Kaido makes sense doe since Oden was already dead. WB even Pre TS didn’t want Ace to hunt BB after he murdered Thatch in cold blood and WB should have had far more reason to want BB’s head than Kaido.

Dragon/Akainu might be thematic parallels rather than having a personal history. Dragon the ex-marine whose brand of justice is opposing authoritarianism, and Akainu the marine that embodies it. That’s enough setup for a potential fight.
