Character Discussion How interested Mihawk is in Luffy?

I just noticed that in Marineford, Mihawk commented that there is "never a dull moment" with Luffy:

"Never a dull moment with you... Straw Hat" rather implies that he may have been keeping an eye on Luffy as well.

And apparently he visited Shanks specifically to discuss Luffy:

So do you think Mihawk is interested in Luffy because of the encounter on Baratie, because he is Zoro's captain, because of the stories Shanks has told him, or because of Luffy's Plot-Plot No Mi? Or possibly a combination of some or all of these factors? And is he keeping an eye on Luffy beyond just normal interest in somebody causing the kind of ruckus Luffy is causing?

It's simply him interested in the impact Luffy has like on Zoro, his ability to gather allies and his growth in strength and influence. Ultimately, Zoro's the Straw Hat Mihawk cares about most and expects great things from but Luffy is also an intriguing pirate, given his relations to Shanks and influence on other characters.

Mihawk was the first real top tier to take Luffy Dream seriously and he shows respect to luffy again later putting him as equal to the likes of Shanks and BB when Buggy wants to go for PK

If Luffy becomes Pirate King, and Zoro his right hand. Then Mihawk Yc3 losing to Zoro will not be seen as humiliation as he lost to the right hand of the pirate king, keeping his fake hype.
