Powers & Abilities How many times did Zoro use armament

#2
I think that he used ryou at least 4 times after his battle against Mr. 1:
  1. To destroy Ohm's Eisen Whip, which was made of iron cloud, and defeat him with Hyakuhachi (108) Pound Ho in Skypiea;
  2. In his battle against Kaku, who was able to use tekkai, in Enies Lobby, several times;
  3. To slash open Kuma's shoulder, which was made of an alloy even stronger than steel, with Shishi Sonson in Thriller Bark;
  4. In his battle against the PX-4 in Sabaody.

Other possible uses:
  • To almost cut down the Giant Jack (the huge beanstalk) in Skypiea;
  • To cut open the sea train carriages, the tidal wave and T-Bone (+ destroy his blade) in his way to Enies Lobby;
  • Against Ryuma's zombie in Thriller Bark;
  • Against Oars' zombie in Thriller Bark.

I could be wrong but I doubt zoro needed haki to cut the iron cloud or body technique. I don’t really remember anyone else going up against the iron cloud but the strawhats we’re getting all getting through iron body pretty easily
Tho I do think he was probably using armament every time he used shishisonson. Probably the same with rashamon which is just the upgraded version of the attack. Everything else idk

Hard to say, Zoro was cutting steel Canon balls left and right..
Ain’t cannonballs in one piece made of iron?

So i did some digging because i wanted to be accurate.. All the fight against Daz Bones the translation referred to steel since Daz Bones ability is turn his body part into Blades, but the japanese raws never once mention '' Steel '' and only '' Iron ''.. So apparently Zoro's goal to defeat Daz Bones was to learn how to cut '' Iron '' , '' Tetsu '', not steel..

It’s unfortunate but you lowkey might actually be right lol

I found this tread about it. I’m not Japanese so I obviously can’t read the actual raws myself but I don’t got any reason to believe they’re lying

With how bad sanji’s whole move set is translated it wouldn’t surprise me if the viz fucked that up too. Tho if true the anime fucking it up that bad for so long is crazy

Yes, that thread is right and his japanese panel example he made a green square around the word '' Tetsu '', '' Iron ''..

I think the reasoning for why it's '' Iron '', Zoro is hearing the breath of everything for a while and the breath of Steel is Iron because Steel is composed of 97% Iron.. So basically cutting Steel and Iron is the same thing, even though they are 2 completely different materials?..

If you want i can provide you every single panels where the word '' Iron '' is mentioned and make a colored rectangle around it.. Steel is never mentioned..

I’m not going to ask you to do anything but it would be interesting tbh

Tho based on the thread actual steel still seemed like a big deal pre timeskip. With it being emphasized just how tough the steel wall in enies lobby was as well as the steel of kuma and the pacifista

So zoro might have only been able to actually cut steel after his 2 years of training. Like he technically didn’t cut through the steel in kuma’s body. Tho you can definitely argue he cut the pacifista with asura but at that point even sanji was breaking it so…idk

When it comes to cutting using Swords with base CoA, i personally think Iron and Steel are the same..

Here the panels for the whole fight..

Yup, I believe so too.

At least a decent thread.

People ignore that Oda indeed used haki pre time skip. There is many instances that makes you think if haki was used or not.

I also think that Luffy at his final clash with Crocodile, was using haki, Oda drawing the blood just made people confuse, IMO Luffy was so concentrated on being able to damage him, that he unconsciously used haki.

If that’s the case how come it’s differentiated in moments like these

While armament haki (specifically emissions) is probably necessary for any swordsman to be able to cut iron, steel, diamond, etc. it likely depends on the swordsman’s overall strength and haki release

Like pre timeskip zoro with haki learned to cut iron but still couldn’t cut steel. Through growing stronger during the timeskip he can casually cut steel now but probably couldn’t cut diamond. Assuming he can’t now after learning to cut kaido he’ll eventually grow strong enough to cut diamond too
