So how much of his reputation does shanks lose from being no 2 to Mihawk in strength.

Remember marines gave a bounty to Mihawk solely based on mihawk being better than shanks. That shows that shanks is known for being no 2 swordsmen.

He has to go after Barty because people put their trust in Shanks to protect them from pirates attacking them. If he lets that slide he’s let them down.
