Kuzan was talented, that's why he got bored learning from others and wanted to be a monster like Garp

That would explain why he was hurting/feeling pain when punching the battleship (which has a hull made out of seastone to ward away sea beasts)

Was Kuzan training at a handicap? Or am I looking too much into this and its just the ship hardness?
