Character Discussion How would you have handled Smoker and Tashigi after Alabasta arc ?

#1
What do you think of the way Smoker and Tashigi have been used and written after Alabasta arc, with them disappearing of the story for a long time before making a few appearances in Marineford, and then reappearing after Fishman Island arc, only having a major role in Punk Hazard arc, where their handling was controversial, and to not have had any major importance since then ?

How would you have used, treated and portrayed them after Alabasta, and especially after the timeskip during and after Punk Hazard arc ? Where would you have them appear ? In which role ?
And also what powers and abilities and skills would you have given to them ?

Get rid of Fujitora and replace him with Smoker with purple smoke awakening He wouldn't be an admiral straight from the time skip but he wouldn't have gotten his ass beaten three times in one arc. Have Smoker get rid of the warlords since his right hand and men actually suffered cause of them.

Tashigi, at most, mid diffs Monet and doesn't get rescued by her future baby daddy. She gets flying slashes, can harden her sword and isn't dead weight moral support like on the beehive.

Pre TS Smoker was a dawg, Luffy couldn't do shit to him and had to be saved countless times. Tashigi's character was still kinda useful and served as Smoker's moral check

PH is where things go downhill, but not for Smoker. Him vs Law had to happen to build up Law, and him vs Vergo was a good fight where we are explicitly told Smoker threw the fight out of a sense of debt towards Law.

Tashigi is handled horribly. The major change I would make is the Monet fight, instead of Zoro saving the day I would have Zoro come in try to help her but Tashigi refuses and takes her on solo. If you want Zoro to do anything maybe after Tashigi defeats her she lets her guard down and starts arguing with Zoro, Monet goes for one last hail mary and Zoro scares the shit out of her.

Law's comments to Tashigi really don't have a payoff, and instead they are proven right when Monet just thrashed her. Nowadays nobody has any hope for her meanwhile Smoker still has a lot of potential

I would’ve brought them back in Thriller Bark personally. I feel like that would’ve been a great place to reintroduce them with another Warlord, Luffy just getting a monstrous bounty boost and attacking Ennies Lobby and it continues Smokers character that he’ll travel to hell and back just to get Luffy.

Give Tashigi a side quest where she loses her shadow and has to defeat herself to get it back (helps her character arc where she said she needs to get stronger after Alabasta)

Give Smoker a small side quest where he sees that Moriah has stolen the shadows of multiple marines and have him fight a small army of Zombie Generals created from Captain + marines where he purifies them all.

Have them leave the arc early due to Kumas interference where Kuma said that they are wanted at MarineHQ and use that to introduce Ace being captured because Smoker and Ace clashed on Alabasta would be a good introduction to the upcoming war and smoker being a part of it.

Tashigi has been treated and handled very poorly after the timeskip, especially in Punk Hazard where she was humiliated and a damsel in distress so many times, with her motherly moments with the kids being the only positive point for her in this arc.

On Punk Hazard I would have made her fare better against Law, to be beaten but not that easily, and to defeat Monet on her own.

I would also have made her far stronger than how Oda portrayed her, with her fighting style being developped and showcased more with her sword style being more based on speed and agility and technique compared to Zoro, as well as her being able of using observation and armament haki in a more impressive way, producing flying slash with a flower or bird style and using Geppo and Kami to enhance her speed and agility.

She would also use Kami to make her body flexible, in order for example to release herself of chains, handcuffs and of Robin's techniques, having learned from her encounter with Robin in Alabasta.

She and Zoro would also have talked more, with Zoro telling her about Kuina and his own story, as well as encouraging her to become even stronger and go after her dream, while she would come to accept that Zoro isn't evil and that he deserved his blades, while also having more and deeper interactions with Nami and other Straw Hats and a more developped friendship with Koby and Helmepp as well as Gion and Tsuru.

I would also have made Smoker and Tashigi come to Wano, with the story being very different than the gigantic mess we got of an arc, with Tashigi learning more about swords smithing and history and becoming even stronger, learning how to use either fire cutting or ice slashes, and getting in boost in haki both for observation and barrier haki while Smoker would similarly have his own power-up here. Both would have been allies again with the Straw Hats against the Beast Pirates and their allies (with the BMP being absent of the arc), and learning about the WG's dirty dealings with Kaido and Orochi here.

Smoker & Tashigi woth rokushiki post-timeskip should've been a given.
Indeed, though Tashigi would make more use of it as Smoker has his devil fruit to already help him with speed and mobility, with her making more use of Geppo, Soru and Kami to boost her agility and speed; and as I've said above, to give her a counter to Robin's df with her using Kami to make her body and limbs too flexible for Robin to hold her or break her.

I'd liked to have them on Sky island. Both having sneaked onto their ship to capture them while they went to the upstream thingy.

I'd have liked them take out Moria as Shichibukai for whatever reason - justified though. So they get some wank among the marines.

Early Smoker had great FA potential and Tashigi could've grown into epilogue admiral material. But Oda forgot :kayneshrug:

I'd have made Tashigi looking like Kuina an actual plot point and not just a passing mention and with the clone thing, could of easily elaborated on that plot

I am generally not a fan of characters being clone of other characters, and I don't trust Oda with the current clone story that is heavily hinted right now.

I prefer Tashigi to be related to Kuina, perhaps as a cousin with their mothers being twins, or simply another person who happened to look like Kuina with Zoro telling Tashigi about Kuina and eventually coming to see Tashigi as her own person instead of just someone who looks like Kuina or a copy of her.

It was something that was actually better written in the novelization of Logue Town, with Zoro acknowledging that despite their physical ressemblance Tashigi is very different from Kuina in terms of personality.

Make Smoker have an awakening, and Tashigi become proficient in at least one form of Haki. Also just having him encounter Luffy more often throughout the story, and eventually have Smoker reach Admiral level while Tashigi is VA level. I would also like just more clashes and/or team ups with Smoker and Luffy and have Tashigi have more interactions with Zoro.

I agree the clone plot seems shoehorned in, but if he's going down the route Tashigi being a clone would kinda make sense or at least related some how.

Also Smoker's Moku Moku no mi should have been given more powers and uses than it has been. The various special clouds of Skypeia give several examples of what Smoker could possibly do with his smoke powers.

And there's the darker but still useful and lethal use of smoke to poison or suffocate the adversary.

Fuji is good but Greenbull is a Akainu fangirl no point in intodrucing such a clown Admiral

kill them off

useless character that take up space and serve no purpose should be killed off or removed from the story in order to not over bloat it, otherwise you get dogshit series like one piece

Only if there's a real purpose to it and why the WG would have made a clone of Kuina, and if the outcome and impact on Zoro and Tashigi is done well.

Have faith in Smoker. He´s out the hospital now, and will not job. Until he does. But the return will be glorious
I really like Smoker but I have limited faith in Oda to make good use of him in the future, after his treatment in Punk Hazard and with these last three arcs.

Why though? Oda randomly makes characters stronger all the time. Look at Crocodile or whatever. Smoker also has importance as someone who Luffy has always liked and personally yelled at the Gorosei.

Following the events in Albasta, Smoker and Tashigi are diligently pursuing their training. Smoker is pushing his Devil Fruit abilities to their limits, while Tashigi trains with Bogard to ensure Zoro's continued participation.

Same thing in the war of the best.

Timeskip, get reintroduce to them in Fishman Island where Smoker beat up a supernova. Can be Urougue because he isn't important in the story yet.
We see a stash of swords Tashigi is cleaning and she is thinking of Zoro's Wado.

So basically a stronger version of them who are actively getting rid of pirates and Tashigi persuading her dream.
