Lolden didn't save anyone. He completely doomed Wano by trusting one of the least trustworthy characters in One Piece. He also gave Kaido and his crew more time to build up his strength.

If he fought Kaido and his crew right away his chance of winning were much higher.

You dont get it, if he started an all out war when Kaido and Orochi had tons of innocent wano people as a hostage it would be a wrong thing.
