Character Discussion I feel like Kaido got the short end of the stick when it comes to the Yonko's despite all the hype and build up

Kaido is not really a villain. He is an amalgamation of random and generic villain traits who’s roll in the story is to elevate Luffy to Yonko level . He is not a villain, he is not a character, he’s not even a person really: he is just a sentient plot device.

Oda could’ve accomplished the same thing he is trying to accomplish with Kaido, by introducing this really big rock that no pirate has ever been able to lift, and then having Luffy lift the rock. Kaido does not have any focus or personality because he isn’t meant to be a real character, just a stepping stone for Luffy and nothing more. No other villain in One Piece could’ve been replaced in this manner, every other arc conflict was built around the motivations and character of its villain. For example, Crocodile’s plot to conquer Alabasta. Replace Crocodile with a heavy rock, and the entire conflict of Alabasta falls apart. The rock would not be able to construct such a delicate plan to conquer a WG affiliated Kingdom from the shadows. With Kaido, you can replace him with any generic lifeless strength-measuring device and the story to Wano does not change much.

Did Kaido get shafted? Absolutely. His character had a lot of potential back in 795 before Oda flushed it down the toilet, and it really is a shame because his introduction in a vacuum was awesome. But instead, Oda decided to make Wano about Oden and Orochi instead of Kaido.

Kaido is easily Oda’s worst villain and an F-Tier character. I do not think Oda has ever written a more generic, forgettable, and low quality character than Kaido. Half of his lines of dialogue are so pathetic that I almost vomit when I read them.

“These brats...so strong!!”

“I’m actually taking damage..this is fun!!”

“This brat injured me...how is this possible??!!”<-Kaido states after Luffy used literally the exact same Haki against him that the scabbards did (??)

“When you’re having fun, you smile!!”

Yeah I have nothing remotely good to say about Kaido. He is complete trash and is the central reason that OP has been an F-Tier manga lately.
got to agree with you here Lee

Kaido is a power base character therefore everything in the manga is about power lately therefore fandom only talk about power

Kaido and Big Mom are not even half of a character than Teach and Whitebeard were ...

if a character is defined by his/her power ... that character is PURE TRASH

He has inconsistent and even contradictive character traits yeah. Crocodile, Lucci, Enel, is far better. Dunno about Moria though, his character seems meh as well.

Gotta agree with @Fleet Admiral Lee Hung , i want to say this even if i have some friendship with Kaido fans here .
but the usual stress and tension we get from an Arc by a Villain we didn't get it with Kaido being the Main villain here in wano ; even Doffy showed better than that when he even nearly Killed Law , but here we go we have scabbards running around even I started to see hawkins's predictions as trashes :whitepress:

Wano would have been such a better arc if only the editors had more power. They could have forced Oda to focus more on Kaido's development including the Rock Pirates, they could have forced Oda to include why the Marines are so scared of Wano, there should have been more focus on swords, why Wano is blocked off from the world, even expand on Zoro's father and master that was hinted. So many great subplots in Wano that haven't been addressed and instead Oda wants to expand on stroking off Luffy every chapter, stroking off Oden and a bunch of stupid overcomplicated Haki concepts. Oden stroke off really annoyed me. Oden to me by far is the worst character Oda's introduced. Not even close.

Big Mom got the short end ...

but Shanks and Teach are CLEARLY Big Bosses of the final stage of story
Some people here keep saying Big Mom got the short end and while on one hand I agree, but these people fail to realize that Big Mom didn't have to share her arc with another Yonko, Oda also decided to have her play a role in the Wano arc, and there is still a slight chance she might even play a role in a third arc after Wano.

But with Kaido he has to share his arc with another Yonko, and unless I'm wrong Kaido will be irrelevant once the Wano arc is over.

As for Shanks and Blackbeard, I agree these two Yonko's are way more important to the overall story line than Kaido and Big Mom.

King looks like a real badass in my view, I wish his role in the story was more significant, she could have replaced Big Mom under the proper conditions.

Oda jerked off Zoro more than Luffy in the whole wano arc. You are too busy jerking off Zoro along with Oda at that time and now Oda jerking off Luffy you woke up and trash talking as usual since it is the character you hate most. You will know why Wano is closed once we reach post war, don't even know basic storytelling aspects but pretend to be critic.

Kaidou is not written as a villain who kills people randomly just because he is a villain. His aim to have a glorified death like samurai. He is just a strong powerhouse, alcoholic, wants to die. So far he was underdeveloped because Oda busy with Japanese samurai jerking off. Now that is over (?), and Yamato is going up, we will get to know character of Kaidou. I mean 100 chapters is too long but judging character even before the arc is finished kinda like premature ejaculation.

Lol of course Big Mom got overshadowed by her own, but at least that ended up happening during the second half of the WCI arc.

Deny all you want but so far Kaido was overshadowed throughout the Wano arc by both Orochi and Queen, yeah Big Mom is the least popular Yonko but do you really think Kaido is any better.
He's outranked by characters like Tama, Bepo, Woop Slap, Pell, and Kob
And in Japan he's ranked 87 making him the second least popular Yonko over there.:doffytroll:

This topic wasn't meant for you or other Kaido fans to dislike his character so try not to get salty, also again this topic is not about Kaido's power level.
Koby’s a better character than BM and Kaido combined. Power isn’t everything.

the potential that kaido had back in chapter 795 is being fleshed out pretty well.
I am quoting some guy who explained it much better over here :-
"The thing people forget about Kaido is that he has a very strange relationship with death. It fascinates him. So whereas people thought Kaido was just being a punching bag for the scabbards and supernova, I think he was just taking the attacks head on because he was genuinely curious if any of these strikes could pose any sort of lethal threat to him. I think to just dodge and one-hit KO his enemies would not satisfy his curiosity. He wanted to see what the samurai’s rage and new generation amounted to, and if their skills could actually deliver him to death. Based on his past, we know Kaido isn’t opposed to dying but only IF certain conditions are met (as they were with WB). I think Kaido is way more complex and troubled than we give him credit for, and I imagine he’ll be fleshed out more but this chapter seems like a step in the right direction. Especially for those saying the raid has no stakes or feels too easy. This is what the World’s Strongest Creature looks like. "

tldr version:- at least in the op verse , kaido & his relationship with death which is a very central part of his character is not generic at all
