I hate the argument of realism in games

like they want the idea of realism but they still want to have stories where nothing real happens

If you want realism why not

make a game where you work a 9 to 5, get nowhere with that then go home to have family who cause you stress

but that's depressive and repetitive
And that's life but they want realism when it's only convenient
I think the word is not realism, but rather immersion that you are looking for.I find intrusive huds such as mini maps and icons to be immersion breaking imo.

tbh realism comes from the ps1 era, even the lille squared people looked real

AAA games are now too expensive and big to make so they feel worse to me

we legit got like 1 megaman a year on NES and maybe snes

Realism is a word that gets thrown around a lot, I think most people mean 'logical' instead. If you have a game set in feudal Japan with established rules that is based on our world, and then Kagura pops out of a tree and starts blasting people, that's not something games should be striving for.

My biggest problem in fiction growing up is kids running around like they don't have school in the morning. Which is why I appreciate the cartoons where we see kids living their normal lives school and all.
