they don't need Aokiji's help that would have been too overkill

plus, if he was there, Robin WOULD mention it when talking about it to Luffy, but she didn't

Another proof that Aokiji didn't participate in the Payback/Grudge War is the fact that Jinbei says the world doesn't know where he went after he lost to Akainu, while Usopp above says the Payback War was a HUGE DEAL in the news, so they would have reported Aokiji being there, but he wasn't.

Marco said that Quake DF was the key to their lost. He would have mentioned Aokiji if that was the case.
