On the inside, the body's core temperature is ALWAYS hotter, so perhaps he was thinking that maybe the virus only cooled at a surface level.
And as for him not notcing that he had been iced, perhaps that is because of his fur which was growing chilly, not his actual skin underneath. It's all just speculation, but it's interesting.
It does seem like Marco will help though since he noticed the screams of terror and stuff. Those special flames may be able to do something. Maybe he will be able to help Chopper out. It's obvious that Chopper won't die though.
