Oda is not going to abandon all that, and start Franky anew with powering up and mastering a Devil Fruit, when there is so much to be explored with cybernetics its not even funny.

We've finally reached the point of the story where technology is getting massive focus, but yeah, let's just drop that and give the Technology based Straw Hat a Devil Fruit.

Franky getting Kuma's DF is very old theory

It is a old theory, it's not like Gohdroger was the first one who came up with it or has some leaks.

Why would Franky sacrifice his ability to swim to inherit Kuma's will? Swimming is important enough to Franky to say no to eating a devil fruit important to his captain. Plus the Paw Fruit does not match Franky's fighting style.
