But if that's the case, then wouldn't it be denying Luffy's free will?
I mean, in the manga what can be seen is that Luffy chose to eat the devil fruit; It's not like the fruit entered in Luffy's mouth on its own.
So if Oda confirms it's true that the devil fruits choose who will eat them, then Oda will be establishing as a premise that at least the devil fruit users, and possibly the people who interact with them until they eat the devil fruit, are basically pawns whose thoughts and actions are at least influenced, if not totally determined, according to the will of the devil fruits so that they just stay on track to eat the devil fruits.
