Yeah? I think Mihawk >= Shanks but I respect take of saying Mihawk's title doesn't prevent Shanks from being = him.

And Roger has more hype around him, yes. He's narratively more important character after all. But WB's title is an objective reason to limit Roger from being stronger. Equal works and that's how they're presented as always. Any comparison made between them is that of equality.

This is under the assumption that turning something permanently black is something only Swordsmen can do, which I doubt is the case. It's most likely the most beneficial to Swordsmen, but I'm fairly certain blackening something is going to have something to do with ones level of CoA.

What if, you have to some kind of ritual? Like pokemon with their master, a Dragon with a targaryan, a dog and its keeper, give it some of your blood, something that it can inmortalize you. Put your soul on that Blade.

Give something of you to it, maybe that is the reason. Mihawk might have done it, just as Ryuma. Something kinda like HxH where they have to sacrifice something for stronger nen abilities.
