As sad as it is, he doesn’t do much to the overall story.

I hope this changes during Elbaf and he gets stronger (I think he has Observation Haki?) but he hasn’t been adding much to the plot recently.

The thing about Usopp's shitty character is that whatever step he takes forward, it's always followed by two steps backwards. Therefore I would caution you about harboring hope for him lol.

I agree with you the story would be miles better without a character the author has fetish for humiliating
