At some stage during the final war when Luffy clashes with Akainu , Akainu will get told and learn that he has been the lap dog of a man called IM Sama all this time. All this time there has been a man above the Gorosei and above anyone else who was acting as dictator and deciding what was gonna happen in the One Piece World and who doesnt give any shit about justice whatsoever.
And even though Akainu always had the suspicion that a higher power was out there he still refused to believe it. He just didnt want to believe it. And just at the very moment IM finally shows himself. Akainu freaks out and runs towards IM to attack him. IM starts smirking and then showing his brute power by one shotting the Fleet Admiral and leaving him badly injured. But IM doesnt stop there and approaching the badly injured Akainu to kill him and show everyone his brutality.
IM who just killed Akainu then approaches Luffy who is also under shock about what just happened and tells him that he was "waiting for him, Joyboy". And so it begins, the ultimate and final battle of One Piece.
