Imu is a boy kid who's taken over an adult woman's body. He is infatuated with another woman (Lili/Vivi) like Momo was and also needs that woman's lineage to extend his possession of the body he's inhabiting, thus extend his own immortality.

Gaia, Asherah, Inanna, ISIS, Amaterasu, etc., are all goddesses that somehow relate to the Earth. Even, the name IMU, or UMI backwards for Ocean in Japanese; can relate to Calypso another goddess.

There is one mother Goddess who fits more than any of those.
The primordial goddess of sea and sometimes referred to as Mother Earth.

As for the voice topic:
Does not matter, women voice male characters all the time in anime or japanese games.
So even if it is a female VA it does not mean Imu is a woman.
