Pretty obvious, just like Orochimaru did Imu also cursed the ones below him and they gets stronger by the curse.

So there is a possibility he gets betrayed by one of those below him, maybe Shanks even without the curse, and gets killed by him.

Also, could he taking other people corpses in order to live that long? Maybe he took Saturn corpse as he just died?
